Dear Shayamasundar, Do accept my very best wishes on your 60th birthday. Without doubt, you will continue your work with even more rigour. I am happy that your students and colleagues are organizing this workshop. Here's wishing great success for the workshop. S.P. Mudur
I remember very well Shyamasundar joining TIFR in 1976. He was easily recognized with his black cap and tilak marks. More than any of the rest of us, he was interested in formal languages and, being enterprising, had soon made contact with Professor Artur Salomaa and went off to Finland for a two week workshop (or conference?). I asked him how he managed for food in that highly carnivorous society and he skirted around the question saying there were always carrots and rice! It cannot have been easy but he was determined that these small hardships would not deter him from his career.
So I am glad to wish him well. I am sure the celebration will provide the kind of recognition that he deserves.
whishing Prof.RKS many more years of fruitful service to computer society and researchers. May Almighty shower His blessings on him and his family Prof.K.Rangarajan
Dear Prof Shyamsundar, Sorry I could not make it to your celebrations. My best wishes to you.
Still remember warmly the many occassions when so many of us research scholars would come to your house and enjoy your hospitality and, of course, Sharda's wonderful cooking.
Our collaborations have been greatly enriching experience for me. I recall several intense discussions we had during writing of the CFDVS proposal. I am sure our collaboration will continue in future.
Wishing you and your family great time ahead. Life begins at 60.
Please convey my congratulations to Professor Shyamasundar on this happy occasion and my best wishes to him for many happy, healthy and prosperous returns of the day.
Thanks and regards, Shobo Bhattacharya, DCMPMS, TIFR
I am extremely sorry for missing out this important programme and joining all of you in honouring my esteemed mentor and colleague, Prof. Shyamasundar on the occasion of his 60th birth year anniversary. My association with Prof. Shyamasundar has been long. almost as long as my professional career is. I started my research career in the early 80s at IIT Bombay, having missed an opportunity to be part of Prof. Shyamsundar's team in TIFR. Like many others at that time in TIFR, he influenced my research area in concurrency and distributed systems. Needless to add that some of his works in the area had an impact in my work. Later, my entry into embedded systems and synchronous languages was also influenced to a greater extent by him. After my PhD, we collaborated on many projects which led to some interesting results in combining synchrony and asynchrony. A longer collaboration ensued while writing a monograph on synchronous languages.
I would like to place on record that I enjoyed and cherish the mentorship and the long collaboration with Prof. Shyamasundar. I am very happy and fortunate to have been associated with him. On this important occasion, I would like to thank him for all the help and wish him a long, happy and healthy personal life as well many more continuing years of active productive professional life. I am certain that several students and programs of national importance would benefit from his active guidance and participation.
Thanks for the invitation. I will not be able to join due to other prior commitments.
However, a few lines from my side:
Prof. Shyamasundar joined TIFR while Prof. R. Narasimhan was Head of Computer Science. I could render little assistance to Prof. RKS as I was fully devoted to RN's work. Whatever little, I wish to say that I learned from Prof. RKS regarding sending emails and use of the "vi" editor while typing Prof. RN and RKS's manuscripts on the newly installed SUN System then.
I still use the vi editor. i am grateful to Prof. RKS and all his Ph.D students - Drs. Paritosh, SAK, Kamal, Jam, Saluja, KV and Raja -- they all were so helpful and kind.
My association with Prof.R.K.Shyamasundar is mostly on professional front and particularly in bringing up International Conference on Distributed Computing and Internet Technology (ICDCIT) series. I thankfully acknowledge his leadership for the success of this conference series.
Including his academic excellence, I have seen him amiable and encouraging. It has been my privilège to work with him in different occasions.
I'm sorry to miss this celebration. Wish him more and more laurels as well as good time ahead!
Dear Prof. Shyamasundar, During your career you have inspired, mentored and touched the life of many, and i feel lucky to be one of them. I feel sorry that I will not be able to attend the workshop on the occasion of your 60th birthday. My wishes for great success of the event and very best wishes on your 60th birthday. Warm Regards S. Sir, Kindly accept my best wishes on turning 60. I wish God to keep you in good health, a very happy family and good research environment and hope that you will continue to do better in the rest of your career and life. I do remember you for all long discussions which I used to have with you either in your office or my office. Once again good luck to you. Regards, -Anoop

First off, apologies for not being there physically - non-determinism in medical practice proved too difficult to work around :(
It is difficult enough to describe the exhilaration i felt when presented with the freedom the erstwhile TCS group offered a research scholar used to nothing more than what a small town Govt. college had on offer.
Documenting how a factory cast engineer is transformed through after market retrofits by a patient guide into a researcher is certainly beyond what i can pen ...
For having been a mentor and inspiration for not just my [brief] research career, but more so, negotiating the choices life placed before me, thank you.
Having had the privilege of interacting with you on and off campus, am hard pressed to decide which i enjoy more, but am certain i look forward to a lot more of both :)
wishing you the very best for years to come
-btr ps. jaikumar, the blog was an especially nice touch.
Please, do accept my best wishes on your 60th Birthday. I am sorry that I could attend the workshop but I was honored to be in the list attendees. I am proud to have you as Mentor and I will use this occasion to thank you for the impact that you had in my life.
Wishing you best of the health and happy family life for many years to come...

@Jaikumar: I do agree with BTR "the blog was an especially nice touch"
My best wishes to you on attaining your 60th birthday this year.
I must thank you for giving me the opportunity to work as your secretary since the time I joined the Theoretical Computer Science Group in 1989 and later when the School of Technology and Computer Science was formed in 1998 (earlier I was with the Computer Systems and Communications Group from 1983 onwards). Under your guidance, I could carry out the work of the Group independently and whenever there were any difficulties, you told me how to solve it.
You provided me the best possible working environment and you saw to it that I was not troubled a lot because of my mobility. I was impressed with the way you allowed me to handle the various events (conferences / workshops) independently. This gave me a lot of confidence and I was able to take this at a higher level when the Institute entrusted the responsibilities during the Bhabha Centenary year.
Last but not the least, you were there at my side whenever I needed your help.
I once again wish you and your family a long and healthy life.
